A Russian drone struck a gas station in the Mykolaiv region on Saturday, August 1, injuring three members of the same family, including a four-year-old child, local authorities said.
Heorhii Reshetilov, acting head of the regional military administration, said on Telegram that the enemy attacked a gas station in the Mykolaiv district during the day, presumably using a Klin UAV. “Three members of the same family were injured: a four-year-old girl, her 29-year-old mother and her 61-year-old grandfather,” he said.
According to Reshetilov, all three sustained minor injuries and were undergoing medical examinations at the time of the report.
The attack is the latest in a string of Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure in southern Ukraine. On July 28, one person was killed and nine others were injured in Russian attacks in the Mykolaiv region, the administration said, and earlier this week Russian forces also targeted the region’s ports as part of a broader campaign against Ukrainian export infrastructure.
Mykolaiv, a key shipbuilding center and port city on the Black Sea coast, has been repeatedly hit by Russian missiles and drones throughout the war. The region’s proximity to the front line in Kherson Oblast and to the Black Sea makes it a frequent target for glide bombs, ballistic missiles and loitering munitions.
The drone strike came on a day of intense Russian attacks across Ukraine. A mass missile barrage on Kyiv killed at least nine people, a drone hit Rozetka warehouses in Brovary killing one employee, and an airstrike on Kherson’s Central District killed a woman and wounded five others, according to Ukrainian officials.
Ukraine’s air force said it intercepted 154 Russian drones, a ballistic missile and an air-to-ground missile overnight, but warned that the scale of attacks continues to strain the country’s air defense network. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly pressed Western partners for additional Patriot systems and interceptor missiles to protect civilian areas.
