Tsimerman, a Canadian mathematician, won the Fields Medal, sometimes called the Nobel Prize of mathematics, for reshaping o-minimality theory into a foundational tool for arithmetic geometry and for proving the Andre-Oort conjecture, a problem that had remained open for over 40 years.
