Google took the wraps off its Pixel 10 lineup at its annual Made by Google event on August 20, introducing four new devices powered by the Tensor G5, the company’s first processor manufactured on TSMC’s 3nm process node. The new chip marks a significant step for Google’s in-house silicon ambitions, moving away from Samsung’s fabrication facilities and promising substantial gains in both performance and power efficiency for on-device AI workloads.
The lineup includes the standard Pixel 10, the Pixel 10 Pro, the larger Pixel 10 Pro XL, and a refreshed Pixel 10 Pro Fold. All four models feature the Tensor G5, which uses a 1+5+2 core architecture combining a Cortex-X4 prime core, five Cortex-A725 performance cores, and two Cortex-A520 efficiency cores. Google says the chip triples the token processing window compared to last year’s Tensor G4, enabling more complex on-device AI tasks.
Display and Hardware
The Pixel 10 Pro sports a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Pro XL steps up to a 6.8-inch panel with the same technology. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold features a 6.4-inch cover OLED and an 8-inch inner screen capable of reaching 3,000 nits of peak brightness. All models are expected to ship with up to 16GB of RAM to support expanding Gemini AI features.
Google has retained its distinctive camera bar design across the lineup. The Pro models are expected to feature a 50-megapixel Samsung main sensor alongside 48-megapixel Sony sensors for ultra-wide and telephoto duties. The company is positioning on-device AI capabilities as the primary differentiator rather than raw camera hardware, with over 20 new AI-powered experiences available at launch.
Pricing and Availability
The Pixel 10 starts at $799 for the 128GB variant, with a 256GB model at $899. The Pixel 10 Pro begins at $999 for 128GB of storage. The Pixel 10 Pro XL opens at $1,199 for the base 256GB model and climbs to $1,549 for a 1TB configuration. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold maintains its predecessor’s $1,799 starting price.
Pre-orders open on August 20, with shipping expected to begin on August 28. The India launch follows a day later on August 21, where Google has confirmed local availability for the new models. The timing puts the Pixel 10 series in direct competition with Apple’s anticipated iPhone 17 launch and Samsung’s Galaxy S26 lineup expected later this year.
The shift to TSMC fabrication is particularly notable. Google’s previous Tensor chips, designed in collaboration with Samsung, were manufactured by Samsung Foundry, which has struggled with yield issues on advanced nodes. By moving to TSMC’s proven 3nm process, Google aims to close the performance gap with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite and Apple’s A-series chips, while maintaining its focus on specialized AI and machine learning accelerators.
