Two children were killed and nine others injured, including seven children, when drone debris struck a private childcare centre in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region overnight, regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said on Sunday. The wreckage of a Ukrainian drone hit the facility in the city of Krasnodar, killing two children at the scene. Seven other children and two adults were hospitalised with injuries, Kondratyev said in a statement published on his official Telegram channel. Emergency services responded and extinguished fires caused by the drone debris.

The attack was part of a large-scale overnight Ukrainian drone campaign targeting southern Russia. In addition to the childcare centre, drone strikes also hit logistics infrastructure in the region. A fire broke out at an Ozon logistics hub in the town of Enem, while a Wildberries facility in the same area was also damaged. Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defences destroyed hundreds of Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions.

Campaign Against Russian Logistics Intensifies

The childcare centre strike came as Ukrainian forces intensified attacks on Russian e-commerce infrastructure. On the same night, four logistics hubs belonging to Ozon, Russia’s second-largest online retailer, were targeted across southern Russia. Facilities in Makhachkala, Adygeysk, Nevinnomyssk, and Enem were struck, with the Makhachkala and Enem warehouses catching fire.

Ozon shares fell as much as 12 percent on the Moscow Exchange on news of the attacks, while shares in AFK Sistema, the company’s major shareholder, dropped by nearly 13 percent. The company said several people were injured at the Makhachkala facility, which halted operations. Work at a logistics centre in the Samara region had already been suspended after the first Ukrainian strike on Ozon facilities on August 22.

Deadliest Incident Involving Children

The Krasnodar attack marks one of the deadliest incidents involving children since Ukraine began its deep-strike campaign into Russian territory. Russian authorities have reported a series of civilian casualties from drone debris in border regions and southern Russia throughout August.

Ukraine’s military has increasingly targeted logistics hubs and e-commerce warehouses it says are used to store and distribute dual-use goods for the Russian military. Moscow denies any military use of commercial facilities. The attacks underscore the widening scope of the air war between the two countries, with both sides conducting daily drone and missile strikes deep behind front lines.
