Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court on Thursday to federal stalking charges connected to the December 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. In a statement to the court, Mangione said he shot Thompson and that Thompson died, adding that he understood his actions were illegal. The plea comes after Mangione previously entered a not guilty plea in April 2025, when prosecutors formally declared their intent to seek the death penalty.
