Russian forces struck four districts of Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region overnight, killing two people and wounding three others, while a separate attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia sparked a fire, regional officials reported early on Friday.
Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, said on Telegram that in the Slobozhansk community of the Dniprovskyi district, the administrative building of a food processing plant was destroyed. In the Novopokrovsk community, a high school, the village council and stores were damaged.
In the Nikopol district, Russian forces struck the district center and the communities of Pokrovska, Marhanets and Chervonohryhorivska, where a factory and vehicles were destroyed. “Two people were killed. Three were injured,” Hanzha wrote, adding that a 58-year-old man was hospitalized in moderate condition while a 51-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were to receive outpatient treatment.
In the Pavlohrad district, the Troitska community was targeted and private homes were damaged, while in the Synelnykivskyi district the Russians hit the Yavornytska and Pokrovska communities. The attacks continued a pattern of nightly shelling that has made the Nikopol area, which lies across the Dnipro River from Russian-occupied territory, one of the most frequently struck parts of the region.
In Zaporizhzhia, regional military administration head Ivan Fedorov reported a fire after the latest strike on the city. “A fire broke out as a result of the enemy attack on Zaporizhzhia,” he said on Telegram, with an air raid alert declared because of the threat of Russian drones. Preliminary reports listed damaged buildings and non-residential premises, and authorities said an FPV drone had also attacked one of the city’s districts during the day, with injuries reported.
The overnight attacks follow one of the heaviest weeks of Russian bombardment in months. On July 29-30, Moscow launched a combined barrage of more than 70 missiles and 280 drones that killed at least eight people across Ukraine, and a Russian cruise missile flew into Polish airspace and detonated near the village of Wola Uhruska, prompting NATO to scramble fighter jets. A separate strike on the village of Radushne near Kryvyi Rih, which Ukrainian officials say involved a North Korean ballistic missile, killed a family of ten; July 31 was declared a day of mourning in Kryvyi Rih.
Ukrainian officials have repeatedly called for more air defense systems and long-range weapons as Russia keeps targeting civilian infrastructure and residential areas. According to the General Staff’s latest update, 226 combat clashes took place along the front line in the past day, with the Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk sectors seeing the heaviest fighting.
