A Russian strike destroyed a Nova Poshta postal branch in the town of Haisyn in Vinnytsia region on July 31, wounding nine people, three of them in intensive care, Ukrainian officials said. The attack on the civilian logistics facility was part of a series of Russian strikes on Nova Poshta infrastructure across the country.
Head of the Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration Natalia Zabolotna said the number of victims had risen to nine, with three people in intensive care, one of them in serious condition, and five others sustaining minor injuries. Earlier reports put the number of wounded at five, then eight, as rescue operations continued.
The State Emergency Service said rescuers extinguished a fire covering more than 750 square meters at the site of the strike. “Firefighting was complicated by the threat of repeated attacks,” the service said in a statement, adding that sappers were also working at the location to clear hazards.
Nova Poshta, Ukraine’s largest postal and courier operator, confirmed that its branch in Haisyn had been destroyed by a fire that spread from neighboring warehouse premises. Two employees were injured in the attack, the company said, adding that their lives were not in danger.
The company said the branch was hit as part of “a series of enemy strikes” over the past day that also destroyed one of its sorting terminals in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where employees were in shelters and were not injured. In a separate attack, a Nova Poshta sorting terminal in Poltava was destroyed, with staff sheltering and no casualties reported, according to UNN.
Nova Poshta said it would compensate clients for the declared value of shipments destroyed in the attacks and had activated backup logistics routes to minimize possible delivery delays. Information on damaged cargo would be established in the near future, the company said, urging customers to track shipment status in its mobile app and on its website.
The strikes highlight Russia’s continued targeting of civilian infrastructure far from the front line. Vinnytsia region, located west of Kyiv, has been hit repeatedly during the war, and postal and logistics networks in several regions have suffered damage in recent weeks as Moscow steps up attacks on economic targets.
Attacks on logistics hubs disrupt mail and e-commerce services used by millions of Ukrainians, including aid deliveries and small-business shipments. Nova Poshta operates thousands of branches across the country, and its network is widely considered critical to the wartime economy, with the company maintaining operations even in areas close to active combat zones.
