Samsung officially launched its next-generation foldable smartphones on Monday at the Galaxy Unpacked event, revealing the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 with significant hardware upgrades and expanded AI capabilities.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 arrives as Samsung’s thinnest and lightest clamshell foldable to date, with a slimmer hinge mechanism and a larger cover display that now spans the full width of the device. Samsung said the new Flip features an improved Flex Mode that allows the phone to hold its angle at more positions, making it more practical for hands-free video calls and content creation.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7, meanwhile, focuses on addressing long-standing complaints about foldable weight and thickness. Samsung reduced the device’s overall profile while maintaining the 7.6-inch inner display. The company also upgraded the crease visibility on the foldable panel, claiming it is now nearly imperceptible under normal use.
Both devices ship with enhanced Galaxy AI features, including real-time translation during calls, AI-powered photo editing tools, and deeper integration with Google’s Gemini assistant. Samsung said the AI features are designed to work seamlessly whether the devices are folded or unfolded, adapting the interface to the user’s current screen configuration.
Durability improvements include a new Armor Aluminum frame and enhanced water resistance ratings. Samsung partnered with Corning to develop a new ultra-thin glass specifically for the Z Flip 8’s main display, claiming it offers 30 percent better scratch resistance than the previous generation.
The launch comes as the foldable phone market continues to grow, with competitors including Motorola’s Razr Ultra and Google’s Pixel Fold pushing Samsung to innovate faster. Industry analysts expect the Z Flip 8 to start at around $999, with the Z Fold 7 priced at approximately $1,799. Preorders open this week with general availability expected later in August.
Galaxy Watch 7 was also announced alongside the phones, featuring a new bioactive sensor for continuous health monitoring and improved sleep tracking capabilities. Samsung said the watch will work with the expanded Galaxy AI ecosystem to provide personalized health insights.
