XRP Ledger Batch V1.1 Nears Activation as XRP Climbs 23%

The XRP Ledger Batch V1.1 amendment holds 30 of 35 validators and should activate around September 29, with XRP at 1.58 dollars.

The XRP Ledger is set for its most consequential protocol change of the year, with the Batch V1.1 amendment holding support from 30 of 35 tracked validators and on track to activate around September 29 if the required 80% consensus holds.

The upgrade matters because it changes what the ledger can do for institutions. Batch V1.1 lets an account group up to eight transactions into a single atomic operation: every transaction in the group succeeds together, or the entire group fails. There is no partial settlement, no half-completed trade left dangling on the ledger.

Why asset managers care

The headline use case is delivery-versus-payment settlement, known in traditional finance as DvP. A tokenized bond and its payment can settle in one atomic step, which removes the failure mode where one side of a transaction completes while the other does not. RippleX, the engineering arm behind the ledger, reports that commercial projects are already designing products around the feature ahead of activation.

Exchanges, wallets and marketplaces can also use Batch to bundle service fees with customer payments, folding what used to be a separate transaction into the same ledger close. Custody transfers and cross-border payment flows fall into the same category of multi-step operations that previously required careful sequencing off-chain.

The amendment replaced an earlier version after a security review flagged a vulnerability in the original design. The revised V1.1 passed that process and entered its activation countdown on September 15 at 14:06 UTC, according to RippleX engineering lead Ayo Akinyele. Support currently stands at 85.7%, above the 80% threshold, and the 14-day window completes on September 29. If validator support dips below 80% at any point, the clock resets.

Price follows the build cycle

XRP traded near 1.58 dollars on Tuesday, up more than 2% in 24 hours and roughly 23% over seven days, per CoinStats data. The token reclaimed the 1.50 resistance level that had capped it for weeks and sits about 57% below its all-time high of 3.65 dollars set in July 2025.

Institutional demand has kept pace. Cumulative inflows into the seven US spot XRP ETFs reached roughly 1.71 billion dollars as of September 18, and Goldman Sachs and Jane Street rank among the largest fund holders. Open interest in XRP derivatives remains well below its July peak, which analysts read as a market moving on spot buying rather than leverage.

The rally has company. Evernorth, the Ripple-backed XRP treasury vehicle, is one shareholder vote away from a Nasdaq listing under the ticker XRPN, with the merger vote set for September 30, one day after the expected Batch activation. Armada shareholders decide the merger, and passage would put a Ripple-aligned balance sheet on a major US exchange.

A bigger month for XRPL

Batch V1.1 caps a busy stretch for the ledger. On September 17, Ripple connected XRP to Stripe payment tools through the Machine Payments Protocol, enabling software agents to pay for data and services with one-time XRP or RLUSD payments that require no manual authorization. The same day, Ripple shipped version 1.1 of its XRPL Starter Kit, adding support for the Open Wallet Standard that lets software manage wallets across multiple blockchains through one interface.

The XRP Ledger Foundation also released lending vaults with lock periods ranging from 60 seconds to 30 years, extending the ledger beyond payments into term lending. RLUSD-denominated loans have gained traction among institutional users over the past month, and the ledger has recorded fewer active accounts even as trade sizes and settled value climbed, a shift CoinDesk flagged as fewer but larger transactions.

Moscow Exchange added XRP perpetual futures for qualified investors, settled in rubles, part of a wider push that also includes indexes tied to solana, tron and BNB. The exchange first listed crypto indexes in May and has expanded steadily despite Western sanctions pressure on Russian finance.

Security history shapes the design

The path to V1.1 was not smooth. The original Batch amendment was pulled after the security review identified a flaw, and the ledger community has grown more cautious about amendment rollouts after several near-misses in recent years. The two-week sustained-support requirement exists precisely for this: it gives node operators time to upgrade, test and veto a change before it becomes permanent.

For operators running their own XRPL infrastructure, the activation date is the practical deadline. Binance Square and developer channels have reminded validators to update before September 29, while exchanges and custodial wallets serving retail users need no action at all.

What activation means

For ordinary holders, nothing changes on September 29. The significance is structural: atomic multi-account transactions close the gap between XRPL and chains that have long offered composability, and they do it in a form aimed at the settlement workflows that regulated finance actually runs.

Validators control the outcome in the XRPL amendment system. A change needs sustained support above 80% for two full weeks before it applies permanently, which is why activation dates are estimates rather than promises. The current countdown began after the threshold was crossed on September 15, and the amendment has held above the line since.

That positioning fits the broader 2026 story for XRP. The token has struggled to convert ETF inflows into sustained price momentum this year, with seven straight weeks of institutional buying earlier in the summer producing little breakout. But the pipeline of functional upgrades, exchange integrations and a potential Nasdaq-listed treasury gives holders a denser set of catalysts than at any point since the July 2025 peak. Whether the market pays for infrastructure in a flat quarter is the standing question. The validators, for now, have already answered.
