XRPL Batch Upgrade Goes Live With 8-in-1 Transactions

The XRP Ledger activated Batch V1.1 at 14:06 UTC, letting users bundle up to eight transactions in one. Institutional settlement features come with it.

The XRP Ledger activated its Batch V1.1 hard fork at 14:06 UTC on Monday, introducing batch transactions that bundle up to eight operations into a single on-chain unit with all-or-nothing execution.

The upgrade crossed its activation threshold after reaching 82.9 percent validator support and entering the final automatic activation timer. Unlike a coordinated software launch, XRPL forks go live on their own once validators signal readiness, which is why the exact activation time was known in advance to the minute. Node operators who failed to upgrade in time would find themselves on an incompatible fork of the ledger, which is why the weeks leading up to activation saw a steady push from developer relations teams to get infrastructure providers current.

What batch transactions change

Before this upgrade, every XRPL transaction stood alone. If a trader wanted to swap one asset, send the proceeds elsewhere and place an order, that meant three separate transactions with three separate failure points. Batch transactions change that. Up to eight operations can be submitted as one bundle, and the ledger guarantees they execute together or not at all.

The feature supports two modes. In all-or-nothing mode, every transaction in the batch must succeed for any of them to commit. In any-order mode, the batch still succeeds if at least one transaction succeeds, which suits cases where a partial fill is acceptable. Both modes settle atomically, meaning counterparties never face the risk of half-completed trades sitting in limbo while the counterparty decides whether to continue.

Group-fee functions arrive alongside batching, letting a single payer cover fees for every transaction in the bundle. That matters for companies processing payments on behalf of customers, since the end user can hold no XRP at all and still transact. Wallet providers and payment processors have been asking for this pattern for years, and it removes one of the practical onboarding barriers for consumer apps built on the ledger.

Built for institutional settlement

The batch feature was designed with delivery-versus-payment settlement in mind. In traditional finance, DVP means two legs of a trade settle simultaneously so neither party is exposed if the other defaults. Tokenized asset platforms want the same guarantee on-chain: securities and cash changing hands in one atomic unit, with no window where one side has delivered and the other has not.

The XRPL developer community has positioned the ledger as infrastructure for tokenized real-world assets, and batch execution closes one of the gaps institutional desks cite when comparing public blockchains with private settlement systems. A fund transfer and its payment can now be bound together on a public ledger with finality measured in seconds rather than the days that traditional clearing cycles still require.

Alongside the fork, the LendingProtocolV1_1 credit-pool protocol was officially deployed in xrpld 3.4.0, the node software release that carries the upgrade. The lending protocol brings decentralized credit pools to the ledger, extending its DeFi surface beyond the decentralized exchange it has hosted since 2012. Credit pools let liquidity providers fund borrowing against on-chain collateral with terms enforced by the ledger itself.

Where XRP price stands

The activation lands during a rough stretch for XRP. The token traded near $1.49 on Monday, down close to 3 percent in 24 hours as the broader market slipped alongside bitcoin. Bitcoin itself fell below $83,000 as rising Treasury yields and the unresolved conflict with Iran weighed on risk assets, and altcoins fell harder than the majors.

ETF flows tell a different story from price. US spot XRP ETFs have posted ten straight weeks of net inflows totaling roughly $1.75 billion, and T. Rowe Price recently added XRP exposure to an ETF filing of its own. Institutional accumulation through listed products has continued even as spot prices drifted lower, which suggests the buyers are positioning on longer horizons than the current macro cycle.

Price action has not responded much to protocol news in recent months. Traders have been more focused on macro conditions, with the 10-year Treasury yield above 5.2 percent and the Federal Reserve pricing in a possible October rate hike. Still, scheduled technical milestones tend to draw attention from institutional evaluators who track roadmap delivery rather than daily candles, and batch support was one of the most requested features in the XRPL improvement process.

The SEC deadline overhang

One regulatory date looms for the XRP ecosystem. The SEC must decide on Teucrium’s 2x Short Daily XRP ETF by October 11, a decision that has already been postponed 19 times. In the absence of the CLARITY Act, which stalled in the Senate earlier this month on a 49-50 vote, regulators have moved toward unilateral rulemaking on crypto exchange-traded products, and issuers have learned to expect delay as the default outcome.

Batch V1.1 itself carries no regulatory exposure, but the broader push to make XRPL institutionally relevant depends on the market structure picture clearing. Fund managers considering tokenized asset products want legal clarity on secondary trading before committing capital, and that clarity has been pending in Congress for over a year.

Batch support is live on mainnet as of the activation block. Wallets and exchanges supporting the feature are rolling out interfaces over the coming days, and the XRPL developer documentation now includes batch specification guides for teams building on the new primitive. The next roadmap items under discussion include further DeFi primitives and continued work on institutional payment flows.
