Grayscale Zcash ETF Tops $500 Million as ZEC Extends Rally

Grayscale’s Zcash ETF crossed $500 million in assets two weeks after its NYSE Arca debut, while ZEC is up roughly 43% on the week and bitcoin recovered toward $79,000.

Bitcoin clawed its way back to nearly $78,900 on Wednesday after a late-Tuesday dip below $78,000, but most of the money in crypto this week is moving toward zcash. Grayscale’s Zcash ETF crossed $500 million in assets on Tuesday, two weeks after its debut on NYSE Arca, and the privacy-focused token is up roughly 43% on the week. Bitcoin fell to $77,666 before buyers stepped in during Asian morning hours, leaving the token little changed over 24 hours and just under 2% higher on the week, according to CoinDesk data. Zcash, which broke $1,000 for the first time last week, held most of that gain. The divergence is striking: the largest crypto asset is treading water while a privacy coin that few institutional portfolios held a month ago is pulling in eight-figure sums.

How the fund got to $500 million

The Zcash ETF, trading under the ticker ZCSH, listed on August 25 and now holds more than 550,000 ZEC, according to Grayscale. Options trading began on NYSE Arca this week, giving traders a second way to take positions on the fund beyond buying shares outright.

ZCSH at a glance
Launch August 25, 2026 (NYSE Arca)
Assets under management More than $500 million
ZEC held Over 550,000 ZEC
DCG affiliate stake About $100 million in ZEC contributed
Outside inflows Roughly $70 million cumulative since listing

The inflow picture is less clean than the headline number. A regulatory filing shows DCG International Investments, an affiliate of the fund’s sponsor, contributed about $100 million worth of ZEC in exchange for ZCSH shares. Outside money accounts for roughly $70 million of cumulative inflows since the listing, a distinction analysts flagged within hours of the announcement.

“We’re proud to share The Zcash ETF $ZCSH has crossed $500M+ in AUM. The only $ZEC fund in the world now holds over 550,000 $ZEC. This milestone reflects continued investor conviction in Zcash and the demand for privacy in the digital asset ecosystem,” Grayscale said in a statement posted to X.

Grayscale has floated an $8,100 price target for ZEC based on a bitcoin-style scarcity model, a call that has fed the rally but drawn skepticism given that roughly a fifth of the fund’s assets came from its own sponsor’s affiliate.

A heavy on-chain backdrop for bitcoin

While ZEC ran, bitcoin’s on-chain position grew heavier. More than 71% of bitcoin supply is now in profit, against 67% at comparable prices in May, which leaves a deeper pool of sellers every time price tests the top of its $77,200 to $82,100 range. That range has held for two weeks. “The tape is now trading rates rather than anything crypto-specific,” said Jasper De Maere, OTC trader at Wintermute. He expects more volatility as the final macro data lands before the Federal Reserve’s September 15-16 meeting, with $75,000 and $82,000 as the levels to watch into the decision. US spot bitcoin ETFs are still about $1 billion shy of breaking even in 2026, per CoinDesk, a reminder that the institutional bid behind last year’s rally has been uneven this year. Ether ETFs ended a 12-day inflow streak worth $1.62 billion with a $48 million outflow on Monday.

Why privacy coins got a bid

Zcash entered the top ten crypto assets by market value last week as the rally compounded. Three forces converged: the first US-regulated ETF for a privacy coin, a squeeze that cost short sellers $34 million when ZEC crossed $1,000, and a broader risk-on move across digital assets as traders pared bets on a September Fed rate increase. Institutional interest in crypto more broadly has picked up, with roughly $6.7 billion of institutional capital flowing into the market over the past 30 days, according to CoinShares data cited by market trackers. Whether any of that follows ZEC depends on how much of the ETF’s growth was real outside demand. The next few weekly flow reports will answer that. If the fund keeps growing on third-party money, other issuers will file for privacy-coin products, and the question of how US regulators treat privacy-enhanced assets will move from the margins to the filing docket.
