Yemen’s Houthi rebels have expanded their operations into Iraqi territory, using the country as a launching pad for missile strikes against Saudi Arabia, according to multiple intelligence reports and regional officials.
The development marks a significant escalation in the Iran war, as the Tehran-backed group extends its reach beyond Yemen and the Red Sea into a second country. Reuters reported on July 30 that Houthis were attacking Saudi Arabia from Iraqi soil, working alongside local Iraqi militant groups.
Saudi security sources confirmed that recent missile barrages targeting the kingdom’s southern border regions and oil infrastructure were launched from positions inside western Iraq, not from traditional Houthi staging areas in Yemen. The attacks have damaged at least two oil storage facilities near the Saudi-Yemeni border.
